This house would privatise the NHS
May 8, 2014 @ 5:00 pm / 7:00 pm
With the Health and Social Care act having largely come into effect on the 1st of April 2013, many groups have accused the government of “privatisation by the back door”. Others call for more market based competition to be introduced in to the NHS in an attempt to cut costs whilst keeping/improving quality of care. NHS Hospitals are earning increasingly large amounts of money from private patients, but many campaign groups fear that the inclusion of a private market will drive down the standard of care given to patients. With NHS organisations and private healthcare organisations alike receiving bad press over accusations of a poor quality of care, we at the Manchester Debating Union, in association with Save Our NHS Manchester, ask the question: Is privatisation right for the NHS?
