Video: This House Would Repeal the Human Rights Act

The Manchester Debating Union are back with our first public debate of the semester!

The Human Rights Act (1998) entrenches the UKs relationship with the European Convention of Human Rights. Supporters of the HRA and the ECHR argue that they protect basic human rights and civil liberties, and prevent successive governments from ignoring these rights for political means. However they have come under criticism in recent years, both for being expensive and difficult to access for individuals, but it has also been accused of being overly political correct and ignoring the soverignty and will of the British parliament. Join us this week where we ask Manchester Debating Union ask: should we repeal the Human Rights Act?
